Shibuya Sky ticket prices

The lowest adult web price applies to entry through 14:59. Entry from 15:00 uses the higher web price. These are time bands, not a promise that every later ticket coincides with sunset. Before paying, compare the exact date, entry band, traveler category and cancellation terms on the purchase screen.

Counter prices are higher than the corresponding web bands. A counter visit is not a workaround for a sold-out adult web slot: the operator says the same-day counter inventory is also sold out when those web tickets are gone. The child category follows school status, so do not automatically buy an adult ticket for an elementary school student who is already twelve.

How to book: official site vs Klook vs GetYourGuide

Start at the official ticket information page and follow its purchase button for your selected entry band. Keep the confirmation accessible before heading into the station crowds. If you are booking for a group, check that everyone has the same date and compatible entry time before completing separate purchases.

A reseller can be useful when its listing offers a payment method or cancellation arrangement that suits your trip. Read what the voucher actually includes: the attraction name alone is not enough. Check whether the listing specifies your entry slot, whether it needs exchange, and who handles a weather-related request. A search result is a starting point for comparison, not a confirmed ticket or reservation.

Best time to visit (and sunset slots)

A clear afternoon lets you watch the city change from daylight to evening, but it is also a popular choice. Pick the view you care about first: streets and rooftops are easier to read in daylight; city lights become the subject after dark. Weather can matter more than the clock, so leave another sightseeing option available.

For a quieter planning experience, book before filling the rest of your Shibuya schedule. Keep meals and shopping flexible around the confirmed entry time rather than expecting to change the ticket after arrival. We do not publish a fixed sunset time because it changes with the date. Check a date-specific sunset forecast when choosing a slot.

How to choose Shibuya Sky sunset tickets

The operator releases tickets two weeks ahead at midnight Japan time. Translate that release into your own time zone before setting a reminder, and select the correct Japanese visit date. Buying a later entry band does not reserve a dedicated sunset performance; it reserves the entry time shown in the booking process.

Allow room for ticket checks, the elevator sequence and storing rooftop-prohibited items before the light you want to photograph. If your preferred slot is unavailable, consider daylight or night rather than buying a mismatched date from another seller. A cloudy horizon or rooftop closure can change the experience even with a correctly booked ticket. Keep expectations tied to the actual weather and read the official weather FAQ before purchase.

What to expect at the observation decks

The visit starts at the entrance on floor 14, continues through the indoor areas and reaches the rooftop SKY STAGE. The operator describes the rooftop elevation as 229 meters. This guide distinguishes that rooftop experience from the enclosed SKY GALLERY: if outdoor access closes, your visit may be substantially different from the photographs that led you to book.

Pack around the rooftop restrictions rather than trying to negotiate them at the entrance. A pocketable camera or one secured with a neck strap is different from a loose bag, tripod or selfie stick. Empty your hands before going outside, secure your device and follow staff directions. Arrange storage for oversized luggage before arrival instead of assuming a small locker will fit it.

For planning, treat this as an unhurried observation stop, with additional time for check-in, lockers and elevators. This is editorial advice, not an operator-guaranteed visit duration. Avoid placing a nonrefundable dinner reservation immediately after your slot if a delay would spoil the evening.

  • Store bags, backpacks and pouches in the lockers before entering the rooftop.
  • Tripods, monopods and selfie sticks are prohibited on the rooftop.
  • Phones and cameras secured with a neck strap or fitting in a pocket are permitted.
  • Hats, food, drinks and personal strollers cannot go onto the rooftop.

The rooftop may close for rain, snow, strong wind, lightning, poor air conditions or extreme heat. After entry, a rooftop closure does not qualify for a refund or discount. Before entry, consult the operator’s closure-related cancellation service and your purchase channel.

How to get there

Shibuya Sky is in Shibuya Scramble Square, directly connected to Shibuya Station. The official access guide points to underground exit B6 and the ticket counter on floor 14. It also identifies an exterior first-floor elevator route up to that entrance. Save the building name as well as the attraction name: nearby Shibuya Hikarie has a different sky lobby.

Choose a station exit using the official access diagram rather than following the nearest escalator toward a shopping floor. Allow extra navigation time if this is your first visit to Shibuya Station. The district map below shows the surrounding places, but the operator’s entrance instructions are the reference for getting inside the building.

A flexible half-day around your booking

  1. Hachiko Statue

Start with a recognizable meeting point outside the station and make sure your group is together before entering the building.

  2. Shibuya Crossing

See the crossing from street level before comparing its scale from above; keep the walking stop flexible around your ticket.

  3. Shibuya Sky

Use your confirmed entry slot as the anchor, with rooftop conditions checked on arrival.

Nearby sightseeing and where to stay

If you prefer a full neighborhood day, separate your observation booking from shopping and street-level exploring. Shibuya is a practical hotel base for travelers who want to finish the evening locally, but a nearby hotel does not change admission availability. Compare the exact station-side location and your airport journey before choosing accommodation.

Build a weather alternative into the same neighborhood rather than rushing across Tokyo for another paid deck. Indoor shopping or a relaxed meal can fill the gap if the roof closes. Travelers with a strict photography goal should understand the operator’s closure and refund distinctions before committing to a ticket.

Compare Tokyo observation decks

Choose the observation experience and the surrounding day together. Height, weather exposure and ticket category are different decisions: paying for a higher deck does not guarantee a clearer skyline. Compare the other two options before adding another paid visit to your itinerary.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I book Shibuya Sky?

The official booking window is two weeks, with release at 00:00 Japan time. Check the correct Japanese visit date and choose a slot when it becomes available.

Are sunset tickets worth it?

They can suit photographers who want changing light, but later entry bands cost more and neither clear weather nor rooftop access is guaranteed. Choose daylight if reading the city layout matters more.

Can I buy Shibuya Sky tickets on the day?

Only when inventory is available. The operator says adult counter tickets are also sold out when the same-day web slots are sold out; do not rely on the counter as a backup.

What can’t I bring to the rooftop?

Bags, backpacks, pouches, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, hats, food, drinks and personal strollers are among the prohibited items. Review the full official list before packing.

Is Shibuya Sky better than Tokyo Skytree?

Choose Shibuya Sky for an open-air experience over Shibuya, and Skytree for higher indoor observation areas. The comparison section links to our three-deck guide so you can compare weather, prices and the surrounding day.

What happens if it rains?

The rooftop may close. After entry, rooftop closure does not qualify for a refund or discount. Before entry, consult the operator’s closure-related cancellation service and the terms of your purchase channel.
